This series of work is a result of conversations with my Muslim friends during the Holy Month of Ramadan. This is a time for them to look inwards and reflect on their thoughts and actions. I was trying to connect with my fasting friends in that important time of reflection and created a series of mosque paintings.

 

Amongst the vast number of mosques in the region, these represent some of the most beautiful and I have been privileged to visit most of them. I have chosen subjects ranging from the humble mosque in Ras Al Khaimah that I used to drive past every day, to the majesty of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. The other locations, ones that I have not visited, are ones that are of special importance to my friends.

 

The series has been created using watercolours, illustrating monochrome buildings against a rich, vibrant sunset.
